Planned: Land at the rear of Tilden Gill Road, Appledore Road, Tenterden
Planning permission for up to 100 houses south of Tilden Gill was granted on appeal in April 2016.
The land in question had not been allocated for housing development in the Local Plan, and there were grave concerns on other points – especially access, which was to be through the Shrubcote estate – so the application was opposed by the town council and refused by the borough council. However, the inspector at the appeal decided that “the [Borough] Council cannot demonstrate a five-year housing land supply. Consequently … the relevant policies for the supply of housing should not be considered up-to-date.”
Amongst the conditions imposed on the grant of planning permission is one requiring a roundabout to be constructed at the junction of Ashford Road (A28) and Beacon Oak Road. It remains to be seen whether the cost of this will deter or defer the development.
