Planned: Tent1B – A further extension to the south of Tenterden
When the planning process that led to Tent1A was undertaken, the intention was that there would be a second stage to the development, taking in the fields to the south of Tent1A – up to Hopes Grove Nurseries. Tent1B is intended to be significantly less densely built than Tent1A, comprising 175 houses over a larger area. The intention is that housing should be less dense as the (extended) town meets the countryside, and that more extensive green areas – perhaps including a cricket square – would be included.
The recently proposed “major changes” to the draft Ashford Borough Local Plan 2030 threaten that plan by suggesting that the number of units should be increased to 225 houses. The town council has opposed that intensification, but the decision will be taken by the borough council and the draft plan will, ultimately, be subject to approval by a central government inspector.
Access to Tent1B will be from the estate roads in Tent1A plus an additional access from Smallhythe Road direct.
Ashford Borough Council expects that the Tent1B development will be started in 2021 and fully built by 2023, but they have no direct control over the timescale, as the land is in private hands. Currently (September 2017) no planning application to develop the site has been submitted.
